With our presence in West London, RF Gill & Associates are privileged to be able to assist with many London basement projects. However we have successfully completed basement projects outside of London.

Project briefs

Obviously every project is unique, but the key driver is to create more space and wow factor to the properties. Sometimes this only requires a partial basement, or a lowering of the existing floor level to increase the floor to ceiling height.

Often, however, we get to truly transform a property with a basement that not only extends under the footprint of the property but into the front and rear gardens also, blurring the boundaries between inside and outside space.

Structural solutions

With the majority of these projects in London, the solution often requires underpinning of party walls using reinforced concrete underpins.

Where site constraints allow, there may be the option for piled retaining wall solutions. These are considered on a case-by-case basis, as if reinforced concrete underpeins are used elsewhere, it may be more efficient to continue this method.

Value provided

We are happy, and prefer, to be involved at the planning stage of these projects, to provide Construction Methodology Statements and Basement Impact Assessments as part of the planning submission. Involvement at this stage ensures we can discuss how the works can be constructed and ensure these factors are built into the design to assist all stakeholders in the project both during the project and long after its completion.

Our London office presence is handily located to service the basement projects within the boroughs of Kensington & Chelsea, Hammersmith & Fulham, and Westminster, with access to the other London Boroughs and councils outside of London shared between the London and Essex offices.
